Prayer itself is something that we learn by practice. This is the school of prayer. No man becomes spiritual by refusing to abide under spiritual laws. We learn prayer by praying, we grow in prayer by continuing in prayer. Whatever realm that we come into by prayer, we maintain by prayer. You must be intentional about prayer if you must become a man of prayer.
Prayer cannot be learnt without practicing. All talk, all teaching, all mental and intellectual knowledge about prayer will amount to nothing in your life until you practice prayer. Learn this at the onset of your pursuit in prayer.
Prayer is part of the allotment that makes up your build-up in God. Basically, you cannot become strong in God without prayer. There is a kind of posture that you must sustain if you must survive beyond the flesh and the systems of this world. This posture that we speak of, or structure in the spirit, is a level you cannot get to without prayer. Prayer is not the only path towards attaining this spiritual posture. Some people emphasize too much on bible study; sometimes they carry this idea beyond accurate spiritual balance. Others emphasize more on fasting, others giving, and others worship. These are all spiritual principles that one must exercise in order to grow and become strong. However, the truth is, in most of these things, one cannot maximize enough without prayer. Bible study is futile without much prayer, and so is fasting.
Prayer is not the only thing that grants one power with God, but it must be understood that prayer is what gives definition to all the other spiritual things we do. Please understand that nothing in God can be attained cheaply. Prayer, that is long hours in prayer, is one of the basic things a Christian must pay in order to walk in dominion. There is nothing in God that comes cheaply. No man can wield a dimension in God without prayer. It is in prayer that the valves of our spirit become wide enough that we are able to interact with God.
In your walk with God, sometimes you will encounter dimensions in God by impartation, however without your own measure of prayer, all things will pass away. It is by prayer that we dig our own well in God, such that in the day we are needed we are able to supply. Do not neglect your commitment to prayer.
It is only through prayer that we encounter power. Without power we cannot change the affairs of our life. Without power you can do ministry. Without power you cannot serve your generation with anything useful. Without power we will only become slaves to the world and its system. Why not take this time and enter your own school of prayer? Begin now. Today is the day to start to journey in prayer.
According to Romans 8:26, every one of us is laden with different kinds of infirmities. This truth is what Paul casts light on in this scripture. The journey of prayer, that submission one makes of himself to prayer, is because one comes to understand that he has infirmities; and he needs help. And so he gives himself to prayer. It is in prayer that God purges us from the tendencies of our flesh.
You must understand this, and in light of this understanding begin the journey of prayer. Man, without the help of God, is a bag of infirmity; left to himself he has no way of being delivered from this chain. But the Spirit of God is the one that can help us.
Prayer is the most important component in spiritual growth. We cannot grow without prayers. Peter was a victim of his flesh until he learnt the way of prayer. He denied Jesus at the most crucial time. Even most of the disciples became victims of their flesh when Jesus died. This is what infirmities achieve in a believers life. A prayerless Christian will become a victim of his infirmities. An infirmity is something inherent; and only through prayer can the Spirit of God deliver a believer.
Your lust, poverty, generational curses, and many other weaknesses are all infirmities. These are the things that will keep you under the enslavement of the devil. It is prayer that brings you to a place of purity, a place of transformation; a place where you are cleansed and purified for fellowship and for service. It is by the instrument of long prayers that your deliverance in God is actualized. Prayer takes us from a place of weakness to a place of strength.
